Lithium dendrite inhibiting technology for the negative electrode of rechargeable lithium ion batteries

Rechargeable lithium ion batteries are widely used for smartphones, laptop computers, wearable cameras and other IoT communication devices as the electricity accumulation systems. In the batteries, graphite materials are generally used as the negative electrode.
Metallic lithium is another candidate for the negative electrode of the batteries because the battery using metallic lithium can store over 10 times (per weight) and several times (per volume) of electricity comparing that using graphite electrodes.
However, the batteries using metallic lithium can’t be put into practical use. The reason is, if metallic lithium is used as the negative electrode, lithium dendrite will deposit on the electrode and power failure or ignition may happen by a short circuit.
From our experiences based on water-based plating technology, we have developed lithium dendrite inhibiting technology for the batteries.

Product features, specifications

We have developed the electrolyte to inhibit dendrite deposition on the negative electrode, and the electrolyte is composed of lithium salts, non-aqueous solvents and additives. The additive will adsorb at the growth point of lithium crystals during electrodeposition, and prevent the rough growth of crystal grains. For the reason, it is possible to inhibit the deposition of the dendrite on the negative electrode.
As this technology improves charge and discharge performance of the batteries, also extend charge and discharge cycle, the new innovation contributes to the practical application of the metallic lithium electrode for lithium ion batteries.
Besides, lithium is usually produced by extrusion or rolling; however, if our product is used, you can form flat and uniform films by electrodeposition as the thickness you need. This technology expands the possibilities of lithium to new and future fields.
