Fluoropolymer coatings are widely adopted across a broad range of industries, thanks to their ability to provide exceptional properties such as water and oil repellency, stain resistance, non-stick properties, chemical resistance, and heat resistance. However, per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), a group of synthetic chemicals, are raising significant environmental and human health concerns due to their persistence in the environment and their tendency to bioaccumulate. PFAS is an umbrella term encompassing over 10,000 diverse per- and polyfluoroalkyl compounds. While PFOS (perfluorooctanesulfonic acid) and PFOA (perfluorooctanoic acid) were extensively used in the past, their characteristics—such as high persistence, bioaccumulation, and long-range transport potential—have led to intensifying global regulatory and risk management efforts. Specifically, PFOS, PFOA, and PFHxS are already banned or severely restricted in many regions. Moreover, comprehensive regulations targeting the entire class of PFAS are actively being considered, particularly in Europe. Against this backdrop, there is a rapidly growing demand for fluoropolymer alternative technologies that comply with PFAS regulations. In response, our company has successfully developed a new "silica-based thin-film coating" that is entirely PFAS-free (free of organic fluorine compounds). This innovative coating offers excellent non-stick and anti-fouling properties, making it a versatile and environmentally responsible PFAS-free solution suitable for diverse applications.

TOP CERARELEASE IG is applied by spraying and then heat-treated at 150°C to form a transparent, silica-based coating film.Not only does it provide non-stick, anti-fouling, and water/oil repellent properties comparable to conventional fluoropolymer coatings, but the resulting film also boasts excellent corrosion resistance.
